Note now I am speaking for me, and not recommending this for everyone if you don't want to:
Seeing as our site predates the rise of social media, I'd say to anyone who wants to keep in touch with me on a more ongoing basis on Facebook, to give me a PM to exchange details.
If anyone wants to post their Twitter or Buzz feeds here too then that's up to you!
Caveat:
Being presumptuous, I'd say we THE DIRECTORS OF THE BOARD wouldn't recommend anyone under the age of 18 to share their details with anyone, even if you do know them on here. |

I would also urge caution even if you THINK you know them on here.
Going from the new Social Media to a public forum is okay but the reverse direction is a potential nightmare made even worse for the young folks. We really only had a few active members who'd still be under 18 by now but I'd worry about them putting their details out in public.
Some adults from here have likely already made such connections. I have no Social Media accounts yet and don't plan to start any for now.
For an alternative, maybe members here can just meet at another more active site (in case this place disappears one day). That way no further risk is taken and the connection is less likely to vanish. Just a thought. _________________ We are physical machinery - puppets that strut and talk and laugh and die as the hand of time pulls the strings beneath... We are that which asks the question. I agree; from my experience people, you rarely get the whole picture from talking to someone online.

Can't emphasise that enough.

Like I say, I leave it up to informed adults to make the judgement about who they want to stay in touch with. It's an option people may like to think about, and I just wanted to break the ice. |

And a rider: don't feel obliged to accept every friend request you get, of course. |

Wow...been a long time since I've been here...ah, memories....
I only have one person from the boards on my facebook, which is now my primary form of internet communication. I wouldn't mind adding ppl from the boards, but at this point I've been out of contact for so long that I doubt that any of the ppl that are still here remember me. lol. _________________ Commandment #1: SHUT THE HELL UP! - Moses Griffin, Family Guy |

Aww, how could we forget you, Batbabe?
Chadders: It's been my experience that people are EXACTLY who they appear to be, good and bad. I've probably met almost three hundred people from the internet at this point? And no one of them have truly surprised me in any way. _________________

Here's a surprise...I'm actually a White man.
I enjoy buying/selling stocks, mayonaise sandwiches, and the musical stylings of Jimmy Buffett.
In fact, here I am on my way to the firm after a stop at Starbucks:

Awww....you're too sweet!
I've only met one person from the internet in real life, and it was actually someone from this board...it was interesting, to say the least. lol _________________ Commandment #1: SHUT THE HELL UP! - Moses Griffin, Family Guy |

Back in the early '90s, these guys ran a BBS and then a MUD out of the college they went to, which was a local state school, and it was sort of a "you tell you friends about it, who tell their friends"--so it ended up being an international geekfest. But primarily local people. I met so many people off of it--in the summer, we'd have big parties so everyone could meet up. There'd be 40, 50 people there at a time. It was awesome. And yeah, that was pre-AOL, so I do think that people were more inclined to be themselves than they would've been a few years later, but also since it practically ran on a referral service, it's not like you could be anyone RADICALLY different from yourself anyway. Your friends were always there to call you out.
But yeah, there was a creeper guy who was quiet and creepy in real life, and some weird guy who always wanted to talk about sex, who talked about sex in real life...no surprises there and, since everything was done in public (when I went to see my dad play in NYC, I'd have NYC people meet me at the restaurant where he performed), it was safe as houses.
I know it isn't quite the same now, but I still tend to believe that people give an undiluted version of themselves online. _________________

I certainly remember you by name. I don't think we ever got into any heated direct exchanges on the boards. No blood was drawn anyway.
Sadly, now that the archives are largely gone in the General Forum, I can't really refresh my memory. Let's just begin anew. Stick around and see if the boards continue to be more active. _________________ We are physical machinery - puppets that strut and talk and laugh and die as the hand of time pulls the strings beneath...
